Welcome to HausOfAnthro!

:bulletwhite:[SUBMIT TO GALLERY] :bulletwhite: [SUBMIT TO FAVORITES]:bulletwhite:
Please read our Mission and Guidelines below before Joining and submitting art to our group.

O U R . M I S S I O N
This group aims to feature compelling, aesthetically strong, and meaningful artwork that largely hovers around the theme of Anthropomorphism.

Anthropomorphism: is the conceptual philosophy involving the projection of human physical or behavioral traits onto anything that is not human. (also known in literature as personification).

Our mission is to work towards a real art world appreciation of the theme of Anthro by featuring artists and artworks that have great potential to shine in galleries, tradeshows and exhibitions outside of the internet and its culture. We want to develop an appreciation for Anthro art beyond film and television, beyond comics, and beyond the fandom.

W H A T . W E . L O O K . F O R
We hold the artwork we want to feature accountable to the three criteria of Art Criticism in the real art world:

:bulletgreen: Is there a unique use of technique?
:bulletgreen: Is there successful use of the Elements and Principles of Art and Design (color, shape, form, value, line, texture, emphasis, contrast....etc)?

:bulletblue: Is the piece neatly presented?
:bulletblue: Was the technique used successful and consistent?

:bulletpurple: Does the piece have meaning?
:bulletpurple: Is the meaning deliberate and communicated clearly?

Not every piece of art is strong in all three of these criteria and this is why Art is a subjective thing. We look for art that can answer at least half of the questions above with great strength.

:bulletred: Can the piece connect with audiences outside of the furry/anthro fandom/community?

Answer all of these questions to yourself before submitting to our gallery. These are things we will be looking for in your piece.

W H A T . W E . A C C E P T
Because we are a gallery group that advocates postmodernism and contemporary art, we accept a variety of media. However, we are sticking to media that could be showcased in an actual Art Gallery.

STEP 1]. Become a member by joining our group!

STEP 2]. Go to our Gallery and Submit the piece you wish to be juried in the appropriate folder. TWO submissions per week.

STEP 3]. ....profit?

Artist Exposure Folder Submissions
This folder will be open to Contributors to submit artwork that is not for jury on a weekly basis. 3 submissions per week per Contributor. Contributors still follow the same routine for regularly juried pieces.

How do I become a Contributor?
Contributors are chosen by staff members of the group from Members who actively participate, suggest favorites, and promote anthro art appreciation.

Favorites & Art from the Community Folder
Any Member can suggest an unlimited amount of favorites per day. The Feature folder will be voted on. The "Art from the Community" folder is open for you as a member to submit to whenever you like! This folder is not juried, however; please only submit artwork that shows good effort. The staff may be looking through that folder for additions to our gallery. ;)

Audience and Maturity Rating
We at HausOfAnthro, accept mature artwork submissions but like all the art juried here, we are looking for artwork that helps our mission. We do not accept any submissions that violate deviantART's TOS.

Reasons for submission rejection
We will not be giving out specific reasons for turning down pieces. If we decline your artwork, it is because we feel it is not meeting the criteria we are looking for. We encourage you to continue growing as an artist and submit again in the future.

Being declined doesn't mean you are a bad artist or that your art is bad. It just means you have been exposed to the subjectivity of a gallery juror. We at HausOfAnthro think it is important to introduce the reality of the real art world with this particular group. In reality, when you submit to a juried exhibition, you are not given a reason why your submission was declined. (or even accepted).

There are tons of groups on dA that will offer reason for rejection. This group juries like a New York City art gallery-- meant as an educational experience for you.

What opportunities are there to get my work exposed here outside of jury?
As listed above, members can use our favorites "Art from the Community" folder which is unlimited, and Contributors can use the "Artist Exposure" folder in the gallery 3 times per week. The staff also hand-picks artwork from all over dA....and we frequently snoop through our favorites *hint hint*

What Is Anthropomorphic Art?

Anthropomorphism or personification is any attribution of human characteristics (or characteristics assumed to belong only to humans) to other animals, non-living things, phenomena, material states, objects or abstract concepts, such as organizations, governments, spirits or deities. The term was coined in the mid-1700s. Examples include animals and plants and forces of nature such as winds, rain or the sun depicted as creatures with human motivations, and/or the abilities to reason and converse. The term derives from the combination of the Greek ἄνθρωπος (ánthrōpos), "human" and μορφή (morphē), "shape" or "form".

As a literary device, anthropomorphism is strongly associated with art and storytelling where it has ancient roots. Most cultures possess a long-standing fable tradition with anthropomorphised animals as characters that can stand as commonly recognised types of human behavior. In contrast to this, conventional Western science, as well as such religious doctrines as the Christian Great Chain of Being propound the opposite, anthropocentric belief that animals, plants and non-living things, unlike humans, lack spiritual and mental attributes, immortal souls, and anything other than relatively limited awareness.

Every time I try to submit a deviation, I just get a "waiting approval" message, sometimes for days. Do I have to wait longer for my work to be reviewed, or is this just a more polite way of declining my work? I'm just not really sure what's going on.
cooley Featured By Owner Nov 26, 2012  Professional Digital Artist
Sorry about that. Yes, staff has to review and accept it before it is displayed in the gallery.

This time, it's been over ten days. Is the group active?

Hi Barish - to my knowledge this group is not really active. The founder, Katmomma is focused on other projects at this time.

Quick question. I submitted a piece about a week ago and when I got on today it said "Expired" Not "Declined" not "Unaproved" or any of those terms I would think to mean no, so... What now? Do I resubmit? Do I bow out and spookely recede back into the shadows? Just kind of confused here.

Please resubmit :)
